PUBLIC SPEAKING | COMMUNITY EVENTS
Throughout the year, we participate in a number of events in the community, to remember Sage and to encourage the kind of the community that was so important to them. Beyond that... we are always looking for opportunities to grow! If you have an idea or see a need, PLEASE SPEAK UP! We'd love to hear it!
🎵 CAMP CAZ
Currently, the Sage Casey Foundation sponsors two students in the community with a full, week long scholarship to Camp Cazadero Performing Arts Camp each summer. Camp Caz was Sage's happy place, and an amazing experience for them, where they were able to grow personally, musically and socially, and we hope it will afford other kids with this same opportunity. Keep an eye on this space, as we will be adding updates from past scholarship recipients to show you some of the awesome things they have been doing since attending Camp Caz.
🌈RAINBOW BAGS
|
COVID has made us rethink how we connect with people, and as a result... we're bringing the rainbows to YOU! (At a safe social distance!) Rainbow bags are intended to bring a little bit of sunshine and care into someone's day, bring a smile to their face, and remind them that they are not alone. Each rainbow bag will be different. And we hope that maybe some things will really resonate, and be great reminders that YOU MATTER... and that maybe you'll have a few items that you decide to pass on to someone else who needs a rainbow. You can show someone else that THEY'RE not alone. If you, or someone you know, needs a rainbow in their day... let us know! We'll try to accommodate ASAP!! You can request a rainbow bag HERE anytime! #sagespotting #bearainbow #benice

🌈 Public Speaking
Sage's mom, Rebekah, does public speaking engagements whenever possible to share Sage's story, talk about the ripple effects of suicide, grief, recovery and reducing the stigma around mental health treatment. If there is somewhere that you think Sage's story could be shared to help someone, let us know! We would love to be there! Previous speaking engagements have included:
- Davis Phoenix Coalition Annual Fundraising Gala Keynote Speaker, 2019; (DPC Keynote Speech on YouTube)
- Oak Leaf Rebekah Lodge Santa Rosa Suicide Prevention fundraiser 2018, guest speaker; (OakLeaf Rebekah Speech on YouTube)
- Davis Pride Parade, 2019;
- Ruthless Kindness & The JAYC Foundation campaign for mental health support during COVID; and
- various school staff meetings & workshops.
🌈 Community Support
We also participate in a variety of other ways in the community to share Sage's story where we can, or provide support to other organizations that we see doing amazing work that we are honored to support. We have been very fortunate to support fantastic organizations such as Camp Ten Trees and The Trevor Project in their work, and look forward to being able to partner with them in the future as well. This year, we assembled and delivered bags filled with some fun goodies along with suicide prevention education information and crisis resources to nearly 600 middle schoolers in Sonoma County on their first day of school! At all of the events we do, we are the team covered in rainbows, making people smile, filling the day with color and joy and goofiness (and probably some degree of inappropriateness) and laughter and love... Sage wouldn't have had it any other way. We hope you'll come out and join us. The more the merrier!

🌈 Davis Pride and Davis Walk/Run for Equality
In May, we participate in the Davis Run/Walk for Equality sponsored by the Davis Phoenix Coalition. Sage ran this race for the first time in 2016. It was their very first 10k and they WON the women's division. Not only was it a physical triumph, but a personal one for Sage, because the Davis Pride Festival happens at this same event, and Sage considered this their own personal coming out. In 2018 the race was dedicated to Sage, in their memory. In 2019 the race happened despite a torrential downpour and we persevered despite the challenge... life isn't always a cake walk but we still show up - still in rainbows! COVID has proven to be an obstacle in 2020 but we look forward to continuing this tradition in the future!
❤ AFSP Out of the Darkness
In October we participate in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Out of the Darkness Community Walk to raise awareness for suicide prevention. TEAM SAGE CASEY is always decked out in rainbows and wearing SCF bandanas in Sage's honor. In recent years, we have also painted rocks with rainbows and positive messages and carried them into the park with us to leave them for others to find, hoping to be a rainbow in someone else's cloud when they might need it the most.
